New cycle path built in the Zalaegerszeg agglomeration

It connects the county seat with the neighbouring Teskánd and the Zala Valley cycle route.

Until now, it was only possible to enter the inner city of Zalaegerszeg from neighbouring Teskánd by bicycle on pavements and roadsides, but now a direct cycle path is being built. According to public procurement data , the local governments of the two municipalities are jointly seeking a contractor for the project.

The EU-funded construction project consists of four sections, the main Teskánd - Zalaegerszeg route, 3468 metres long, and three connecting tracks:

the north-western branch at Teskand is 183 metres,
the Andráshida branch is 326 metres,
and the mountain branch will be 149 metres long.

A total of 4.126 kilometres of cycle paths will be built, for which bids are invited until 13 June. The winning contractor will have 270 days to complete the works.

This is the way the track will go

The cycle path will start from Május 1. street in Teskánd. The Zala-Völgye cycle path network will be connected via the railway embankment near the north-eastern border of the settlement. The main route will run along the western side of the road 7405 and then switch to the eastern side in the vicinity of the Újhegyi Street junction. The new cycle path will then continue on the south side of the road 762 and cross the national road before the junction with the City End road.

From here, the route continues along Purple Street, crossing Purple Street, and then follows the unused railway track to the junction with the Inner Relief Street. It then continues along the north side of the municipal road to the junction with Mill Street, where it finally connects with the existing westbound cycle path.

The future is also being considered in the project

As an offshoot, a 325-metre-long footpath and cycle path will be built from the Újhegyi Street crossing to the Andráshida neighbourhood, providing opportunities for long-term development. Also in the longer term, a footpath and cycle path will be built between the Inner Relief Road and Helikon Street, paving the way for access to Ebergény.
