M4: reconstruction of the right lane is under way on the Turökszentmiklós bypass
Traffic is already on the newly built left lane after the relaying on the section of the M4 motorway under construction in Törökszentmiklós, magyarepitok.hu reported. Our newspaper has already reported in several project articles and videos about the 34.29-kilometre section between Törökszentmiklós and Kisújszállás: the Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium project is being implemented by Duna Aszfalt Projekt Zrt..
The new road will be built on a new track for 17.5 km between Törökszentmiklós and Kisújszállás, while 8.1 km of the existing two-lane section will be widened at the Törökszentmiklós bypass and 8.7 km at the Kisújszállás bypass.
Traffic management in the Törökszentmiklós area is key
Miklós Nicoara, deputy project manager, first reported on the work on the Törökszentmiklós bypass: here, after the traffic has been diverted, the reconstruction of the right lane is underway. "Once the wearing course has been built and the traffic engineering has been completed, traffic will be shifted back to the right lane," he said. "After that, the left lane will also be completed, probably in spring next year."
In particular, he mentioned the junction at Turökszentmiklós, where the new M4 route and the temporary link road to the junction will be completed soon. After that, the traffic of the 4 motorway will be diverted to the new route, probably in October, so that the missing links at the interchange can be completed.
Asphalt is already being laid on the new route
He also said that the embankment works on the 17.5 km new route between the Turkuszentmiklós bypass and the Kisújszállás bypass and the connecting structures have been completed. "Here, the construction of the upper 1 metre layer of the earthwork is 90 per cent complete," he added.
At the same location, construction of the FZKA roadbed started and 11 kilometres on both sides were completed by the end of August. "At the same time, asphalting works are underway: 10 km of the 9-9 cm thick AC-16 binder course and AC-22 binder course have been constructed."
Work has also progressed on the Kisújszállás bypass, where 4.5 km of the left-hand lane between the railway high-fill sections - apart from the asphalt wearing course and traffic engineering - is now complete, with the remaining work to follow in the autumn. "At the junction in Kisújszállás and on the left side of the complex rest area, the earthwork is complete and the construction of the Ckt road base and asphalt binder course is under way," he pointed out.
The region will also receive major road upgrades
The project also includes the rehabilitation of five connecting roads. "Of these, the reconstruction of the road 32126 connecting Óballa was completed in July."
Also the road 42103 (Kossuth street in Turökszentmiklós - editor) will be reconstructed between the crossing of the main road 46 and the junction in Turökszentmiklós for 2.5 km. "Here, the inland section, including the curb reconstruction works, will have the wearing course completed by the end of August; while the embankment works and traffic engineering will be completed in September."
The street lighting of the junction in Törökszentmiklós is completed
The expert also summarised the state of play of stormwater drainage and public works. The culverts for the main line and crossing roads are 95 percent complete, and the construction of longitudinal and cross channels, drainage ditches and embankments is continuing in parallel with the earthworks.
In the utilities construction, gas replacement works are complete, while the substructure works for drinking water, waste water and electricity are 85% complete. "Also, the street lighting at the junction in Turkuszentmiklós has been completed and is expected to be connected to the network at the end of the project. The substructure works of the operational communication system (OCS) are 60 percent complete."
The track slab on the two railway bridges is now complete
The progress of the works on the section of the M4 currently under construction was summarised by Attila Duleba, chief architect. According to him, the majority of the bridges on the bypass at Törökszentmiklós and on the new section on the new route are already under construction. At the same time, the roadbed has been completed for both the Turkish-Miklós and the Kisújszállás interchange. "On these bridges, the construction of the connecting embankments, the insulation and the construction of the kerbs are already under way," he said.
In particular, he mentioned the bridge over the main channel of the Nagykunsági, where the girders of the 1-5 abutments were lifted. "The construction of the bridge deck 6 and the insertion of the girders of the 5-6 spans is expected to be completed by the beginning of November, which will complete the bridge structure." He added that construction of the deck between abutments 1-5 is already underway.
Also important progress is the completion of the trackbed of the railway bridges over the railway line 102 (Kisújszállás - Kál-Kápolna) and the railway line 100 (Szolnok-Debrecen) on the Kisújszállás bypass. In conclusion, he also pointed out that the last structural pile on the M4 Törökszentmiklós-Kisújszállás section will be completed by the end of September, bringing the total number of bridges completed to 60%.
