Temporary traffic management is being put in place to improve the flow of traffic on the M1.

Over the past year, we have regularly reported on the various preparatory stages of the expansion of the M1 motorway expansion project, and on 1 September, the contractor MKIF Magyar Koncessziós Infrastruktúra Fejlesztő Zrt. also commenced work on the expansion of the main carriageway.

We have reported on all of this and on the latest works, which have been progressing at a much faster pace since 1 September, based on information published by the company on Facebook. We recently reported on the embankment widening tasks necessary to establish temporary traffic arrangements reported on the widening work necessary to establish temporary traffic arrangements.

The new temporary traffic regime, the so-called 2+1+1 diversion, is being built in several phases, which now also allows for the widening of the embankment. On the sections where this is already in place

On the side leading to Budapest, embankment foundations and widening works are being carried out at several locations, both next to the hard shoulder and outside the track. A temporary track structure is being built on these embankments, so that during the widening of the Hegyeshalom side, traffic can run on 2+2 lanes in both directions on the Budapest side.

During the extension of the M1, the section between the M0 and Bicske will be completed by the end of August 2028, and the section up to the Concó rest area in the Bábolna region will be completed by the end of August 2029, after which the development will continue. The 78 km of motorway 1 will be widened to 2×3 lanes, plus one intelligent stop lane per side to be used as a full lane. This will allow up to 2×4 lanes between Budapest and Győr.
