The manganese content of drinking water in Tiszabő may decrease by 81 per cent

The drinking water network in Tiszabő is being modernised as part of a Swiss-Hungarian joint financing project.

In October, we reported that Swiss-Hungarian funding could be used to renovate the Tiszavarva drinking water treatment plant could be renovated with Swiss-Hungarian funding. Now, thanks to international cooperation, another project can be launched: the quality of drinking water in Tiszabő can be improved.

„The project will provide healthy drinking water for approximately 2,300 people, with manganese and arsenic levels well below EU and domestic limits,” said Tamás Rentz, Deputy State Secretary for Water Management at the Ministry of Energy, on Tuesday in Szolnok at the project's launch event.

Half a billion forints investment

As reported by MTI: According to Tamás Rentz, the investment will be carried out under the leadership of Tiszamenti Regionális Vízművek Zrt. in cooperation with Nemzeti Vízművek Zrt., the Local Government of Tiszabő and the Association for a Living Tisza.

The total budget for the project is 547.8 million forints, 85 per cent of which, or 465.6 million forints, is covered by Swiss funding, with domestic co-financing amounting to 82.2 million forints.

He added that this support is not merely a financial resource, but also a sign of trust in Hungary and professional organisations, as well as an investment to ensure that rural areas, especially less developed regions, have the same opportunities as other parts of the country.

The manganese content of the water is expected to decrease by 81 per cent.

During the project, state-of-the-art water treatment technology will be installed, 520 metres of outdated piping will be replaced, eight gate valves will be renovated, and 16 kilometres of piping will be cleaned and disinfected by specialists, he said. In addition, 14 solar panels will be installed, he noted.

As a result of the development, manganese content is expected to decrease by 81 per cent and energy consumption by 11 per cent, he reported.

The project now being launched is an integral part of the national drinking water quality improvement programme being implemented jointly by the Ministry of Energy and water utility providers, he added. In Tiszabő, improving water quality is not only an environmental issue, but also a matter of quality of life, health and society. „Good quality drinking water is a fundamental right for all of us,” he said.
