The investment in the construction of KÉSZ Csoport and MA-HARD will support the drainage of the BYD factory in Szeged in both the short and long term.

KÉSZ Group subsidiary KÉSZ Építő és Szerelő Zrt. and its partner MA-HARD Hajózási és Vízépítő Kft. have won a HUF 3.99 billion water engineering development contract in an EU open tender procedure, the company informed MTI on Tuesday.

They wrote that the National Water Authority had invited tenders for the construction of advanced water engineering facilities related to phase II of the Szeged industrial area, and that the KÉSZ Group's bid had proved to be the most favourable.

The primary objective of the investment was to provide a temporary drainage solution for the implementation of the BYD project in Szeged. A further objective was to construct the associated water engineering facilities in advance and to ensure the development of a drainage system that could cope with the increased industrial load in the long term.

According to the information provided, the project is extremely complex, requiring a high level of engineering and construction expertise, and plays a key role in the safe and timely implementation of industrial developments in the region.

In Phase II, the contractors' tasks include:

  • Construction of a 2,785-metre-long northern belt channel with an elevated design covered with prefabricated elements.
  • Construction of a Fehértói retention basin covered with foil, as a raised reservoir, with reinforced concrete structures, with a volume of 8,320 m3.
  • Construction of a 11,332 m3 surge basin with drainage structures and a filling pipe connected to the Keleti pressure pipe.
  • Construction of six reception points, including rainwater transfer pumps, reinforced concrete structures, retaining walls and a pressure pipeline with motorway crossings.
  • Conversion of the Öthalmi pumping station to ensure connection to the Keleti pressure pipeline.
  • Construction of Section I of the Eastern pressure pipeline with DN900 ÜPE pipes, manholes and measuring devices.
  • Temporary drainage solutions, reconstruction of temporary structures, and installation of monitoring and control systems.
  • Performing comprehensive design tasks: reviewing implementation plans, preparing implementation documentation, operating permits and regulations, and obtaining permits for material extraction sites.
