New development of Cemix eliminates an important pitfall

A new feature on the Veszprém Cemix website shows the light-shadow effect of plasters, which can be a great help for colour selection.

Perhaps the most important factor in determining the appearance of a building is the colour render, which is a choice of many factors that clients need to consider.

The external appearance can be significantly influenced by the structure of the plaster, i.e. the texture applied during application – our newspaper was assisted in this regard by Cemix in questions about plaster. This structure is basically determined by the grain composition of the product, which can be further shaped during application. In Hungary, the most popular basic structures include scraped, rubbed and sprayed, but other techniques such as cupped, spoon-patterned and machine-sprayed are also known.

The appearance and prominence of the structure is strongly influenced by the size of the grains. Exterior stains start from 1.5 mm grain size, but a minimum of 2 mm is recommended for environmental resistance.

Be aware, however, that the larger the grain size, the more pronounced the texture and the darker the plastered surface.

This is because the larger particles cast a larger micro-shadow, so the shadow effects are more pronounced. This often means that the colour render applied to the façade is not the desired shade; it may be a little darker or a little lighter than the owner or contractor had intended.

IT improvements to avoid errors

The risk of error and disappointment can be reduced with the Cemix, which is available on the website of the Veszprém-based building materials manufacturer showcasing its coloured plaster products.

Here you can choose the shade of colour you like (from the wide range of Inspiration colour cards), adjust the texture of the surface (based on the grain size) and then view the lifelike result in a 3D viewer. This shows a corner of the plastered façade, which you can rotate left and right with the mouse to change the lighting conditions. By seeing how the plaster looks in daylight and in the dark, you can make a more informed decision.

The company also provides the option to filter the available shades based on the HBW indicator.

This technical term from German literature (Hellbezugswert) is best translated as "light reflectance", and is intended to indicate the percentage of light reflected on a scale of 100. The lower this value, the more light the colour in question absorbs, the darker the colour, and the higher the value, the lighter (HBW=0% is completely dark).

The range of colours is now available on the company's website for façade paints, of course without the option to choose the texture, and will soon be available on the website for all colour products, taking into account the specific needs of each product group.
