Published

The aim of the projects is to provide passengers with more comfortable, modern and accessible stations on the Hungarian coast.

The Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium would continue its massive project to modernise railway stations and stops in Hungary. As we previously reported, the development of the Balatonfenyves railway station and the Balatonszéplak upper stop will be completed by the summer of 2024.

The ministry is now looking for a contractor for the construction of additional railway stations and stops in North and South Balaton through conditional tenders.

The railway line to the southern shore of Lake Balaton has undergone extensive renovation in several projects since 2010. In 2014-2015, the railway line between Lepsény - Szántód-Kőröshegy was rebuilt as the first phase of the reconstruction of the Székesfehérvár-Keszthely railway line, phase I. As a continuation of the project, the next 53 km section between Szántód-Kőröshegy and Balatonszentgyörgy was rebuilt between 2016 and 2018, and the 53 km section between Kaposvár and Fonyód was also reconstructed.

As part of the overall upgrade, the railway infrastructure will be renewed, as will the environment around the stations, with different content for each station. The reconstruction of the reception buildings and their lobbies will be carried out, together with the associated water engineering, utility replacement and other construction and demolition works. The projects are planned to include accessibility improvements, P+R parking, bicycle storage, modernisation of the passenger information system, pedestrian areas and green areas.
