The track has been repaired over a stretch of more than 18 kilometres – rail services between Komló and Dombóvár are resuming

Passenger services on the No. 47 Godisa–Komló railway line will resume on 1 August, with trains running between Dombóvár and Komló. The resumption of the service, which has been suspended since August 2023, was preceded by major track maintenance work. According to a statement from the MÁV group, track realignment work was carried out over a total of 18.4 kilometres during the works to ensure operational safety.

Seven level crossings have been rebuilt 

The heavy-equipment track maintenance work was carried out by specialists from MÁV. As part of this, 750 tonnes of crushed stone were added to the track; ballast was replenished and track alignment was adjusted; and the track’s correct geometric position and stability were restored using mechanical compaction. The works included the demolition of seven level crossings, followed by their reconstruction once the works were completed. The works affected the areas of Mindszentgodisa, Magyarszék, Mecsekpölöske, Mecsekjánosi and Komló.

A total of 6,500 rail fastening points were repaired

Experts carried out repairs to the holes in the reinforced concrete sleepers and to the rail fixings at 6,500 points. The work also affected the tracks at Komló railway station.

The new passenger information display, which is currently being tested, is to be installed in Mecsekpölöske

Alongside track maintenance, the passenger information infrastructure is also being upgraded. New regional information columns are being installed at stops along Line 47, whilst Komló station will be fitted with a standard wall-mounted passenger information display.

An e-paper terminal is also being installed at the Mecsekpölöske stop. The equipment, which is capable of displaying real-time information, has already been tested at bus stops, but this is the first time it has been used at a railway station.

Passenger trains will run every two hours

From 1 August, passengers will be carried by Bz railcars, which will cover the journey between Dombóvár and Komló in 42 minutes. With the exception of the morning and evening periods, a two-hourly timetable will be introduced, and connections will be provided at Dombóvár to the Mecsek InterCity trains running between Budapest and Pécs, as well as to services bound for Kaposvár and Baja.
With the restoration of the rail link, the 1,490-forint Mecsek day ticket will also become available again. The 24-hour ticket will be valid, amongst other routes, on the Dombóvár–Komló line, on the section of the Budapest–Pécs main line between Dombóvár and Pécs, and on the region’s connecting local bus services.
