What is being built?
The Bródy project can go ahead
Two major developments are underway at Pázmány, as in addition to the Pázmány Campus affecting the buildings of Hungarian Radio, the university's law faculty has also begun developments in recent years. Bródy Sándor Street 15 is a historic building owned by Pázmány Péter Catholic University, the complex development of which – as we reported – was announced in 2019 under the name of the Bródy project. Built at the end of the 19th century, it is a single-storey, detached building with a basement, whose ground floor is divided into two separately accessible groups of rooms by the entrance hall, while the rooms on the upper floor are connected by internal corridors next to the arcade.
Interior spaces and courtyard façade to be designed by the winner of Phase II
The volume of the building will remain unchanged during the renovation, which has now been announced. The renovation and restoration of the street façade, as well as the maintenance work, have already been completed in phase I, so phase II
- renovation and restoration of the internal façade,
- the transformation of interior spaces,
- gable and basement windows,
- as well as the restoration and renovation of the courtyard and the restoration of the listed building.
Historic spaces in the building also need to be protected, in addition to the researched restoration of the internal façade. The reconstruction of the building will involve a net renovation and alteration of 1347m2 of usable space, plus 50m2 of painting (35m2 required and roughly 15m2 assumed). Approximately 325m2 of façade walling and 212m2 of window restoration works are expected. The courtyard will be landscaped following demolition and soil replacement, with turfing, paving, trees and ground cover shrubs.
The conversion is required to make the building suitable for intermittent office use with low customer traffic.
The works covered by the public procurement procedure form a single technical-economic functional unit, and there is no technical justification for splitting it into parts, given that the individual construction works are interdependent.
