Foundation stone laid for the largest solar power plant in Bosnia and Herzegovina
According to the news portal Balkan Green Energy News, the plant is expected to produce 200 million kWh of electricity per year for 30 years. The foundation stone of the plant has been laid and construction has begun. The city of Stolac reported on the event on its official website. The foundation stone was laid by the Mayor of Stolac, Stjepan Bošković, representatives of the investor Aurora Solar d.o.o. and the contractor NORINCO International. The works started on 28 April and the completion date is expected to be next April. The ground-breaking ceremony is reportedly not only the official start of the Komanje Brdo solar power project, but also a key step in the energy transition and sustainable development of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Company registered in our country in the investor community
According to the article seenews.com article, the project will be implemented by the Chinese state-owned company Norinco International. The investor behind the project is Aurora Solar, which is the co-owner of the local company Tehnomerkur and the Hungarian-registered Green Power Investment, according to the Bosnian company register. In 2024, Norinco announced that it would purchase an 80% stake in Aurora Solar, as reported last year by the Bosnian news portal Capital. Norinco is not new to the region, having participated in numerous energy projects in South-Eastern Europe, including the construction of Croatia's largest wind farm.
Stolac plans to use the revenues from the solar power plant for new developments
The €100 million (HUF 40.3 billion) investment is expected to generate 125 megawatts of energy per hour. Upon completion of the project, the town of Stolac will also benefit from concession and utility fees, which are expected to further develop the municipality.
