New expressway and railway to be built between Budapest and Ferihegy Airport
A HUF 1000 billion development project will be launched in Budapest through an international concession procedure, announced János Lázár. The 75-year-old Liszt Ferenc International Airport will be connected to the city centre by rail and road. The construction of the new railway line will make the airport accessible from Győr and Debrecen.
The terminal can be built in 8 years, the motorway in 2.5 years
27 km of railway track will be built - part of it underground - to provide direct rail transport from the centre of Budapest. The airport will also be accessible from the countryside.
The triple terminal will take eight years to complete. The aim is to double the current passenger traffic and reach the target of 40 million passengers.
With an investment of 500 million euros, the new road will be built on a stretch of 11 km between the outer part of Üllői út and the airport. The construction plans are being finalised. It should take two to two and a half years to complete.
