Active tourism developments have been implemented along the Little Danube
In the spring of 2025, reported that the nature trail in Szigetszentmiklós would be renovated. According to information on the city's website, the development to make the area more visitor-friendly was completed at the end of 2025.
The investment was implemented under the Regional and Local Development Operational Programme Plus (TOP Plusz), during which TDM Nonprofit Kft. received a non-repayable European Union grant of HUF 276.2 million. The project entitled "Water and eco-tourism developments in Szigetszentmiklós" was completed with the planning of Tandem Mérnökiroda Kft. and implemented under Vitép95 Kft..
Tourism concept involving several settlements
The primary objective of the project was to exploit local natural assets for tourism, make more effective use of the opportunities offered by the Danube branch, and fill gaps in services in the region.
The development fits in seamlessly with the water tourism projects planned and implemented along the Danube branch, affecting several settlements. Their common goal is to provide uniform infrastructure and attractive attractions along the entire waterway, which will help to create a new, active tourism network in the long term.
Extensive improvements to the nature trail and its surroundings
As part of the project, the community jetty, which serves as a mooring for human-powered watercraft, has been renovated and now functions as one of the first stops on the Ráckeve-Duna tourist route to be created by the Tourism Development Cluster along the Little Danube.
The capacity of the Szigetszentmiklós Floating Plant Trail has also been improved: interactive, digital, solar-powered information boards have been installed, and the trail has been digitised, making it available in the Digitális Vándor app.
Visitor comfort and active recreation are served by the installation of bicycle racks, a bicycle service point, smart benches, and toilets and changing rooms. In the spirit of environmental awareness, selective waste collection bins have been installed, while bird feeders and related information boards help to showcase the natural values of the area.
As part of the investment, a separate area was created for replica bird nests showcasing the bird life of the Danube branch, and binoculars were also installed for observing the flora and fauna living on the floating platform. A new barefoot walking trail was created, and the 1 May promenade was also renovated, with information boards and street furniture installed, grass pavers laid, and three parking spaces created. For visitors with families, the outdoor children's playground was expanded with new toys.
The water and eco-tourism development project in Szigetszentmiklós was officially completed in December 2025, resulting in a more modern, exciting and sustainable tourist destination along the Little Danube.
