Complex urban regeneration in Tiszavasvári
Tiszavasvári received a valuable gift on the first day of January, marking the fortieth anniversary of its incorporation as a town. The ceremonial handover of the complex renovation of Tiszavasvári town centre took place in mid-December. The project was carried out by one of the region's leading construction companies, KE-VÍZ 21. zRt, based in Nyíregyháza. This multi-generational family business plays an important role in the infrastructural development of the region's settlements and in shaping their appearance. As a result, the town centre of Tiszavasvári has undergone a significant transformation: as part of the „Liveable Settlements” project, not only have the community spaces been renovated, but the heart of the town has also been expanded with new functions.
The construction work was carried out by KE-VÍZ 21 Építőipari Zrt., which performed comprehensive work ranging from building renovations to the renewal of public spaces and green areas.
Complex implementation, diverse tasks
The Ke-Víz played a key role in several areas of the project. In addition to developments in the city centre, elements in the outskirts were also implemented: the tasks included the construction of gardens and parks, roads and pavements, the installation of electrical systems, and the creation of a new public toilet.
According to project manager Gábor Héver, construction began in December 2024 with the handover of the work site and was completed in December 2025. The external works – park construction, playground development, car park construction – were typically carried out during the summer period, in line with weather and urban usage considerations.
House of Meetings: old building, new functions
One of the most important elements of the development was the renovation of the iconic community building in the city centre, the House of Encounters. A total of 725 square metres of space was renovated in the building.
On the ground floor, a new community café with a separate entrance has been created, featuring booths, a kitchenette and accessible male and female toilets. Upstairs, a gallery has been created with a similar booth system, and the terrace has also been renovated.
The stage technology in the auditorium has been modernised: the projection screen has been replaced, the lighting has been supplemented with modern spotlights, and the stage curtain has been fitted with new motors. The building was fitted with a completely new, modern ventilation system, and repairs were carried out to address previous water damage, including painting and restoration of the waterproofing on the terraces. The installation of new main entrance doors has also renewed the appearance and usability of the building.
Renovated public spaces, a more liveable urban environment
The town centre developments affected several locations. Renovation work was carried out on more than 3,100 square metres of Town Hall Square: a new playground was built, and modern street furniture, public lighting and a camera system were installed.
The long-standing parking problem on Kossuth Street has been solved by lowering the kerb, which also has a positive effect on traffic on Main Road 36. Garden furniture has been installed in the area, and solar-powered lamps have been placed alongside the cycle path. New paving has been laid in Gimnázium Square, and flexible, modern street furniture has been installed. Sun sails provide comfort during the summer months, while security cameras enhance safety. The ornamental gardens on Kossuth Street and the square in front of the grammar school have also been renovated with new paving, planting and shade elements. A new public toilet has also been built on Kálvin Street, near Városháza Square and the House of Meetings, filling an important gap in the city centre's infrastructure.
Green spaces and sustainability
During the project, special attention was paid to environmental awareness and the development of green spaces.
A total of 2,639 square metres of lawn was laid, and 5,611 shrubs, 1,326 annual plants and 29 trees were planted.
The renovated parks and green spaces not only have aesthetic value, but also contribute to improving the urban microclimate.
Transport improvements serving everyday life
The new bus stop at the end of Ady Endre Street, which connects to Városháza Square, also serves the everyday needs of the city. Following the removal of the previous pavement, a new 300 square metre pavement was built, improving traffic safety and comfort.
A liveable town centre has been created
According to the project manager, the greatest value of the investment is that it has created genuine, usable and lovable urban spaces. The community café in the House of Encounters has created a new meeting point, while the renovated public spaces, parks and pavements have noticeably increased the comfort of city residents.
