A prime example of Baroque architecture has been restored in Heves County
The Szeleczky Castle in Boconád, Heves County, was handed over after a two billion forint renovation. Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, was also present at the event.
Several renovations were carried out one after the other.
According to previous public procurement data, the renovation was carried out by VivaPalazzo Zrt. and Fenstherm Kft.. Among other things, the interior of the building's nursery school was renovated and rebuilt to create a mini-nursery. The investment also included the modernisation of the building's heating and electrical systems, as well as the installation of a solar panel system. The roof structure was also renovated, as were all the interior rooms.
During the latter, the building's dampness was eliminated and the damaged plaster was replaced: the new interior plaster was made using materials and a layer structure appropriate to the historical character of the building. In addition to all this, the ceiling and wall paintings were also restored and the nave floor was rebuilt.
The castle had already undergone renovation in previous years, which was completed in 2023, according to heol.hu news report. The recently completed project was a continuation of this.
A building over 260 years old has been renovated
At the handover ceremony, Péter Szijjártó said that the government had contributed one billion forints to the approximately two billion forint renovation of Szeleczky Castle. „We are delighted that we can now return this castle to Boconád and the local community in a fitting manner. We are delighted that children, young people and the local community can once again take possession of it,” he emphasised. He added that the castle has once again become the pride of the village and attracts visitors.
The Baroque-style castle was built in 1760. The treasures of the U-shaped building standing in the five-acre garden were scattered during World War II. Later, it became a machine station, used by the agricultural cooperative, and its condition deteriorated further. In the 1970s, the north wing was converted into a nursery school. In the 1980s, the roof of the castle was renovated with state funds, and classrooms were built in the south wing. However, due to a lack of funds, the main building was not restored, and its condition deteriorated significantly over time.
