BKK
BKK has launched a tender for the design of a "bike lane" as a key step in the development of the Great Boulevard.

We also wrote about this in wrote in February that the BKK Budapest Transport Centre had announced a comprehensive development of Budapest's Grand Boulevard, which, following public consultation, is now being put out to tender for a 650-day planning tender. Work can now begin, resulting in one of the capital's most important routes entering a new era with a modern transport system that prioritises pedestrians, public transport and cyclists.

It can join the ranks of conceptual public spaces that are typical of livable cities in the 21st century.

The Circular Road may be redesigned along its entire cross-section

The aim of the Nagykörút "bike lane" is to improve the quality of public space and provide an attractive, safe cycling experience for people of all ages and experience levels on the capital's priority routes. It should also promote unobstructed pedestrian traffic along the Great Boulevard, at the mouths of side streets and at pedestrian crossings. As a priority location in the capital, the design will also include an integral part of the preparatory participatory tasks and communication related to the design and construction process and milestones.

The modification of the entire cross-section of the above road sections - with the exception of the electrical infrastructure - and the way of their qualitative reconstruction is the responsibility of the designer,

where the creation of a directional cycle lane (or cycle path) separated by a built solution is also required, a complete outline plan covering all the necessary sections, including at the level of the permit and design. Of course, the successful bidder must also undertake to prepare the tender documentation and obtain the necessary permits and approvals for construction - separately for each section.

Public toilets may disappear

As an optional deliverable, BKK requires a proposal from the designers for the elimination of the toilets in the design site of the terraces of phases 1 and 2.

The possibility of eliminating up to four toilets in the design area is still under consideration by the client, but the winning bidder will be required to prepare the design plans for the elimination of the toilets, with all necessary sectional approvals.
