Improvements to the country's road network continue, including on the motorway section along Lake Balaton.

We regularly report on the developments and investments of MKIF Hungarian Concession Infrastructure Development Zrt.. They have now published another update, this time on the renovation of the M7 motorway rest areas, which is part of an ongoing series of projects.

As stated in their Facebook post they write, the company is continuing to renovate rest areas across the country. As part of the renovation work to bring them up to standard, six pairs of rest areas on the M7 motorway have now been made more modern, safer and more comfortable thanks to a complete refurbishment – on both the side heading towards the country border and the side heading towards the capital.

The renovations affected the following rest areas

  • Balatonlelle rest area
  • Rest area in Taschka
  • Zalakomár rest area
  • Balatonkeresztúr rest area
  • Segerdő rest area
  • Finger rest area

They point out that these sites have also received child-friendly improvements, and then summarise in figures that the road resurfacing has resulted in a total of more than 76,000 square metres of paved surface being resurfaced.

They list:

  • complete revegetation, new shrubs and trees have been planted; grassed areas have been created;
  • new street furniture has been installed, and tidy spaces have been opened up;
  • modern lighting, with modern, intelligent, traffic-dependent dimming in several areas (the so-called simple rest areas);
  • family-friendly and active recreation also means new playgrounds, play castles and gymnastics, or fitness, parks on the sites;
  • and the rest areas have also been equipped with smart banks and information boards for charging phones.

And in the spirit of security and energy efficiency, MKIF installed CCTV systems, completely renovated the washrooms and installed solar systems for sustainable energy use. In addition, an experience feedback system was installed to collect passenger feedback and improve passenger comfort, they say.

At the end of the entry, MKIF is underlined:

The programme is not over and the regeneration of recreation areas continues across the country.
