Nyíregyháza’s main north-south axis could be modernised

Kossuth Street connects both the University of Nyíregyháza and the Sóstó spa to the city centre, handling a huge volume of traffic.

The northern gateway to Nyíregyháza city centre – the section of Kossuth Street leading from the ring road into the city centre – is set to be renovated, according to a public procurement notice published in recent days public procurement notice published in recent days. In addition to resurfacing the road between Vay Ádám Boulevard and Dohány Street, the aim of the project is to make the cycling infrastructure safer.

 

 

It can be completely refurbished

The total length of this busy road, which has a design speed of 50 km/h, is 574.55 metres. During the renovation work, the road surface will be resurfaced across its entire width, and the drainage grates, manhole covers, gas valves and water shut-off valves will also be replaced and levelled.

In parallel with the resurfacing work, the city plans to introduce a cycle route at the junction of Main Road 4 and Kossuth Lajos Street, which will require changes to the current traffic light system.

In order to ensure the safety of cyclists, traffic management measures and minor construction work are also planned on Körte Street.

 

More than 300 cubic metres of asphalt will need to be laid

The successful tenderer will have five months to carry out the works, the main scope of which is as follows:

  • earthworks: 248 m3
  • kerb installation (raised and recessed): 1,565 metres
  • asphalting works: 339 m3
  • Painting of road markings: 333.1 m2

The public procurement documents set out the detailed and itemised quantities, the technical specifications and a breakdown of the tasks to be carried out by the successful tenderer. The local authority is accepting tenders until 10 June.
