A new bridge and 79 lorry parking spaces are also to be built at the Concó service area on the M1 – according to the latest report

A new bridge and 79 lorry parking spaces are also to be built at the Concó service area on the M1 motorway – as reported in its latest Facebook post by Magyar Koncessziós Infrastruktúra Fejlesztő Zrt. (MKIF). As part of the development of the M1 motorway, six service areas along the 78-kilometre extension section will be completely rebuilt, whilst the rest will be modernised.

Car parks are to be expanded

The development of the M1 motorway is not just about widening the main carriageway: the project also covers service areas, junctions, the connecting road network and engineering structures. A total of six service areas along the 78-kilometre stretch between the M0 and the Concó service area will be completely rebuilt, whilst the others will be expanded and modernised. As part of the development, a total of 300 new lorry parking spaces will also be created at the M1 service areas.

A new bridge is being built

At the Concó service area, the new layout and the progress of works are already clearly visible in aerial photographs. Parking spaces for several buses and 79 lorries are being created at the expanded service area, whilst the alignment of the surrounding roads is also being modified. The reconstruction of the service area involves civil engineering works. This is because the widened main carriageway and the slip road would not fit under the current bridge; therefore, a new bridge is being built to replace the existing structure, approximately 100 metres further along, on a new alignment. The old bridge will be demolished at a later date. Contractors are currently carrying out earthworks in the area, including cutting and embankment construction. In addition, geotextile installation, the construction of the base course, and hydraulic engineering works are also underway.

The development of rest areas is also part of the major M1 programme

As well as increasing capacity, the expansion of the M1 motorway includes the development of family-friendly rest areas. Furthermore, the number of lorry parking areas for freight traffic will be significantly increased. According to information from MKIF, 2×2-lane traffic will be maintained in both directions throughout the entire duration of the project, meaning that both passenger cars and lorries will be able to use the motorway continuously.
