Water management
More than a thousand families in villages of Northern Transylvania get access to clean drinking water
Aquabis, the water utility company in Beszterce-Naszód County, recently launched a major water utility development programme. The project, called CL12, is being carried out by SZABADICS Romania S.R.L. and SZABADICS Építőipari Zrt..
Számos similar work is being carried out across Transylvania by a subsidiary of the Nagykanizsa-based company. Project manager Orban Cristian helped us find out more about the work in Banská Štiavnica. As he immediately stressed:
"The Contracting Authority and the mayors concerned are satisfied with our work. There is continuous cooperation throughout the project and we are working together to minimise inconvenience to the local population."
They can make thousands of lives easier
Expansion of the water supply and sewerage systems in Beclean (Bethlen), Căianu Mic (Kiskaján) and Nimigea de Jos (Magyarnemegye) in Banská Štiavnica County, and the restoration of water supply to SZABADICS, as well as the extension of water supply to the municipalities of Spermezeu (Ispan Field), Târlișua (Upper Lysava) and Zagra (Zagra). They will also be responsible for a number of sub-tasks:
- The pressure in the distribution network in Ciceu Poieni (Chisinau Poieni) is provided from Kiskaján. The drinking water network will be extended by 3,058 metres, to which households will be connected.
- In Ispánmező, 469 households will be connected to the expanding drinking water network.
- The drinking water network in Felsőilosván will also be extended, with 184 households connected to the network.
- And Zagreb's drinking water network could be extended by connecting 381 more households.
Construction progressing well
"By the end of the year, the project will be close to 90%"
- said Cristian Orban, adding that "the overall completion level of the project now exceeds 72%. So far, 97 kilometres of PVC DN250 and PE 63-180 pipelines have been laid out of the planned 134." The construction of the drinking water network is also making impressive progress. As the project leader indicated:
"In two of the five affected municipalities - Spermezeu (98%) and Târlișua (93%) - we are practically in the final stage and expect to complete the work this month. At the moment, the most intensive work is in the Căianu Mic area, where we still have about 12 km of PE and 12 km of PVC pipes to lay."
Between 55 and 60 people are involved in the works, of which 15 people are working in Spermezeu, Târlișua and Zagra, and nearly 40 in Căianu Mic. The construction is made difficult by the rocky, stony subsoil, which requires quick decisions and constant cooperation with the engineering organisation, technical inspectors and the client.
could end in 2026
"The project is scheduled for completion in 2026. Both the Client and SZABADICS are committed to completing the works on time so that the network can provide drinking water to the municipalities as soon as possible." - said Cristian Orban.
While project manager Cristian Orban Cristian Felföldi, the company's director, gave us an update on the company's situation and future plans: "in SZABADICS Romania Srl. we are working to increase our presence in the Romanian utility construction market. Our team consists of dedicated and hard-working colleagues who work together for long-term success.
We have completed several water utility projects in recent years, and the positive feedback from customers and residents confirms that we are on the right track. I am proud to announce that we have recently won another public procurement contract: The extension of the wastewater network in the municipality of Lemnia (Covasna County), which will start in autumn 2025. We will continue our work with perseverance and humility and we are convinced that SZABADICS has a place in the Romanian utility construction market."
