Speed restrictions on the renewed Hódmezővásárhely-Orosháza line have been lifted
The railway line between Hódmezővásárhely and Orosháza was officially opened on Tuesday, having been renovated with 1.2 billion HUF MÁV.
In about two months - with full track closure - the 19 kilometres of railway track between Hódmezővásárhely and Orosháza was renovated, and 14 kilometres of rails were replaced. Speed restrictions have been lifted, allowing trains to run at 100 km/h.
In Orosháza, the platform was raised by 15 centimetres to make it easier to board and disembark trains, and the Huba Street crossing in the southern Békés town was renovated, said Member of Parliament Norbert Erdős at a ceremony at the Orosháza railway station.
Peter Ágh, Secretary of State for Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium said the government is striving to make public transport a fast, cheap and coordinated alternative, with better conditions, more reliable infrastructure and more accessible services.
Mondi Miklós, the regional director of the MÁV Pályaműködtetési Zrt. railway, called the investment, which had been wanted for years, a "missing link". He said a project with a full track closure should start being planned 2-3 years before construction. He added that they had previously been able to achieve a punctuality of around 80 percent, which had risen to over 90 percent thanks to the investment, meaning that on average 9 out of 10 trains could keep to their timetable.
Almost 3800 sleepers replaced with reinforced concrete sleepers
As we previously reported in our newspaper,
90 120-metre long rails were laid and welded together to form the seamless track. Almost 3,800 sleepers were replaced with reinforced concrete sleepers and 3,100 tonnes of crushed stone were replaced. In Orosháza, 100 metres of raised platforms were constructed between tracks 1-2 and 2-3, and the renovated platforms have been open to passengers since 5 September.
The track renovation was carried out by MÁV Track Operation Zrt. with the participation of approximately 100 professionals, using heavy machinery, KIAG control equipment, and the involvement of railway and road vehicles took place. A crane manufactured by Kirow in Leipzig, which can lift up to 110 tonnes and 150 tonnes when supported, was also used to dismantle and lay the switches and track fields, according to a previous announcement by MÁV.
By the end of the year, speed limits will be lifted on the entire Szeged-Békéscsaba line
Also MÁV has previously reported that
By mid-December, six kilometres of track will be adjusted, so by the end of the year speed restrictions will be lifted on the Szeged-Békéscsaba line.
Trains will be allowed to run at 100 kilometres per hour on the section between the Csongrád-Czanád county seat and Hódmezővásárhely, and at 80 kilometres per hour on the section to the Békés county seat.
