Dorothea Hotelt, which opens onto Vörösmarty tér from Dorottya utca, was inaugurated, preserving and renovating the valuable three-part building complex that was reborn with the general construction of Market.

A new luxury hotel will open its doors in the capital on the morning of 20 November: the Dorothea Hotel, with 216 rooms and suites, is part of the Marriott Bonvoy Autograph Collection chain, according to a press release from the investor. The new hotel, named after Maria Dorottya, Archduchess of Württemberg, an influential public figure of the 1800s who, together with her husband Joseph Habsburg, brought significant cultural and economic development to the capital, is located in the capital's 5th district, in a block of three buildings of different ages and styles.

As previously we have previously written, in the block bounded by Vörösmarty tér–Vigadó utca–Apáczai Csere János utca–Dorottya utca, the BDPST Group and Cretum Csoport owned by Dorottya Investment Zrt., Vörösmarty Square will be enriched with a building complex consisting of a hotel, exclusive apartments and service units.

The architectural concept and interior design were created by the Italian star architect studio Lissoni & Partners. Coordinating the work of the Hungarian general designer, TSPC Kft., Market Építő Zrt. undertook the complex construction, complying with Hungarian regulations as well as the strict requirements of the nearly 1,000-page Marriott Autograph Collection Product Quality Standard standard for the hotel section.

The building complex evokes Hungarian art history in three distinct ways

The three buildings that make up the block, which also houses the new hotel, were built in different eras: Weber-ház (1873), the former headquarters of Pesti Hazai Első Takarékpénztár, with neo-Renaissance features; Mahart-székház (1913), the former Art Nouveau headquarters of Magyar Folyam- és Tengerhajózási Részvénytársaság; and Münnich-ház (1937), the modernist and art deco building of Futura Rt. Futura's headquarters. During the development, historic elements of each building were preserved and restored, including the remarkable listed staircase, in collaboration with local heritage professionals.

"We are delighted to add a Hungarian unit to our unique Autograph Collection hotel portfolio with the opening of Dorothea Hotel, Budapest, Autograph Collection" said Sandra Schulze-Potgieter, Vice President, Premium and Select Brands, Marriott International Europe, Middle East and Africa. "Each hotel tells a unique story, and Dorothea Hotel is a shining example, recalling the rich history of the city in a sophisticated and modern approach."

Column hall and Zsolnay tile wall

Upon entering the hotel, visitors are greeted by a colonnade. In the spacious inner courtyard, the reception area features a long drop-shaped glass chandelier, and turning right you can see the fully restored monumental staircase behind a blue Zsolnay tiled wall. The 216 guest rooms and suites of Dorothea Hotel are divided into two different design categories, contemporary (Contemporary) and heritage (Heritage).

The Pavilion Restaurant & Bar is located in the centre of the hotel and features an inner courtyard, where guests can also enjoy a sprawling herb and medicinal plant wall. In addition, a 650 square metre wellness centre with swimming pool, sauna, steam bath and fitness room has been created at Hotel Dorothea.
