The domestic Supermoto stronghold is preparing for the World Cup with significant improvements.
The operator of the Visonta Black Star Speedway is preparing for this year's Supermoto World Championship round with new infrastructure investments.
The aim of the developments is to enable the circuit to cater to growing international interest: the programme includes the expansion of the paddock, new medical facilities and improvements to spectator infrastructure.
The reason behind these investments is that, following last year's successful debut, this year's Hungarian round of the Supermoto World Championship will return as a three-day event, meaning it will be extended by one day.
In response to the needs of the teams and organisers, the track owner has expanded the paddock 1 area by 1,200 square metres, bringing the total paved area available to competitors to 6,500 square metres. As part of the improvements, the terrace above the pit lane will also be enlarged, with a new rescue station being built underneath it, which will enhance the safety and health services at the event.
It will also be possible to host additional international motorsport events.
The investments also affect the spectator infrastructure: the viewing area next to the so-called Sky Section track section is being developed, where it will be possible to set up a stage and accommodate catering service providers. The expansion of the infrastructure will increase the track's event capacity, which in the longer term may enable it to host further international motorsport events.
According to the track's website, improvements began in 2024: a series of significant investments will affect the quality of the track surface, the track layout and the infrastructure.
„The asphalt and kerbs will be constructed using state-of-the-art technology in accordance with FIA regulations,” they write. „The track can be used in both directions, and with the addition of new connecting sections, a wide variety of configurations can be created to meet the diverse needs of motorcyclists, go-karters and track car drivers alike.”
This year's Supermoto World Championship round will be held between 4 and 6 September: in addition to the existing categories, the programme will also feature S4 championship races on an asphalt track. Last year's round in Hungary attracted considerable interest, with more than 4,000 spectators visiting the track over two days.
What is this sport about?
The Supermoto is a competitive sport that combines the characteristics of a motocross bike designed for off-road use with those of a speed bike designed for asphalt. Accordingly, most of the track is asphalt, with the rest being off-road, often dotted with jumps. Supermoto motorcycles are therefore designed for mixed terrain – asphalt and off-road – tracks, making them extremely agile and lightweight.
In line with the above, the Black Star Speedway in Visont has two off-road tracks, one connected to the asphalt and one that can be used as a separate motocross track.
