The project will improve cycling and pedestrian conditions in districts X, XIII, XIV and XVII, and make cycling safer on several sections of the EuroVelo 14 cycle route.

The Budapest Transport Centre Zrt. (BKK) has published a notice in the EU Public Procurement Bulletin published a call for tenders for the design of a cycle route along the Rákos stream. The procedure was launched on a conditional basis.

In the framework of the project, the following 9.5 kilometres of cycle-friendly infrastructure would be developed along the section of the Rákos stream within Budapest:

  • Budapest XIII. district, Népfürdő utca - Madarász Viktor utca section, and the development of the Göncöl and Tatai utca junctions;
  • Budapest XIV. district, section between Csömöri út - Mogyoródi út;
  • Budapest XIV, X and XVII districts (section between Ond vezér út - Cinkotai út).

According to the call for tenders, the successful tenderer will be responsible for:

  • Review and completion of the plans prepared in the project "Development of the Rákos Stream Ecotourism Corridor Cycling Route";
  • preparation of combined permit and construction plans;
  • obtaining all necessary permits and consents for implementation;
  • drawing up the technical specifications for the contract documents necessary for the launch of the public procurement procedure for the selection of the contractor on the basis of approved and authorised plans.

The requirements and requests for modifications contained in the consents, approvals and permits must be transferred to the plans and budget calls, and updated permits and consents must be obtained for the plans supplemented with the requests for modifications. The design engineering services are indicated as an optional task in the call for tender.

Deadline for receipt of bids: 3 October 2025.

Cross-district development: new and renewed links

According to the announcement BKK announcement, an important consideration for the sections involved in the design procurement process is that the new routes connect to the current and planned sections of the network. The aim is that, as a result of the developments, in line with the Budapest Mobility Plan, more and more people will choose to cycle, perhaps in combination with public transport.

The project is funded by the European Union under the "Clean Urban-Suburban Transport in Budapest and its Agglomeration Municipalities Programme" (ICOP Plus 1.1.0-23), and BKK is expected to submit its application for funding in the autumn.
