Road building
Duna Aszfalt can work on motorway tunnels and new expressway connections in Slovakia
The Duna Group plays a key role in a major Slovak motorway project. Two sections of the D3 motorway, which runs from Žilina to the Polish border, are being built by a consortium consisting of the Slovak company Váhostav a.s. a consortium formed by the Czech companies Metrostav DS a.s. and Duna Aszfalt Út és Mélyépítő Zrt., according to Slovak public procurement data, which can be found here and here.
A north-south transport corridor is being developed
The motorway in question, located in northern Slovakia, connects the D1 motorway, which crosses the country from west to east, with Poland, joining the Polish S1 motorway.
- One part of the project involves upgrading an existing motorway to a full motorway – i.e. adding a fourth lane. Between Oščadnica and Čadca A total of 5.3 kilometres. The new expressway connects to the four-lane section already completed between Csaca and the Polish border; however, projects for the D3 sections south of Ócsád are still in progress.
- Another task of the consortium is the D3 motorway. Between the town of Žilina, the district of Brodno, and Kysucké Nové Mesto, approximately 11 kilometres long.
The capacity of the first tunnel is no longer sufficient
The section between Ócsád (Oščadnica) and Csaca (Čadca) will be built by the winning consortium for a net price of €230 million (approximately HUF 91.7 billion) according to the public procurement contract.
A key part of the development is the construction of a 600-metre-long tunnel, which will be built alongside the existing two-lane tunnel currently in use.
The Horelica Tunnel in question was opened in 2004, but only one of the twin tunnels was completed; the other half-profile is currently under construction.
In addition to the construction of the tunnel, the complex project includes the construction of 21 bridges and 31 noise barriers, as well as a wildlife crossing, a motorway rest area and a motorway administration and maintenance centre.
Railway and road structures are also being built
Construction of the section of the D3 motorway between Žilina and Kysucké Nové Mesto, worth EUR 398 million (approximately HUF 158.9 billion):
- the capacity of the region's road network is increasing,
- the negative effects of road traffic (especially freight traffic) are reduced,
- and traffic safety will improve.
The project also includes the construction of branches of the Kysuce-Brodno interchange. The construction also involves the relocation of main road I/11 from the Zsolna-Brodno interchange to the Kysuce-Brodno interchange in the area of Kysucká Brána. The new route will develop the unfinished part of the Žilina-Brodno junction into a fully-fledged junction.
