New developments make the streets of Terézváros more liveable and safer
Terézvárosi Vagyonkezelő Nonprofit Zrt. has published the results of the framework agreement for civil engineering works in the EU Public Procurement Bulletin. The works will be carried out by SWIETELSKY Magyarország Kft..
The contractor's task is to reconstruct the intersection of Bajza Street and Aradi Street, Bajza Street and Lendvay Street, and Bajza Street – Kmety György Street, as well as the installation of traffic calming thresholds at the intersections of Aradi Street – Rózsa Street and Aradi Street – Székely Bertalan Street.
The work includes removing the pavement on sections of the street, constructing new road, car park and pavement surfaces, rebuilding the associated kerbs, and reorganising the rainwater drainage system in line with the new concept. Another task is to install a bed protection frame at the intersection of Bajza Street and Benczúr Street.
All of this must be carried out by the contractor based on the set of plans compiled as part of the technical documentation and the associated permits.
The goal is to create more liveable public spaces
According to the details in the announcement, Terézváros is one of Budapest's most densely built-up and populated districts, where narrow streets, heavy traffic, a lack of parking spaces and a lack of green spaces have long been a serious challenge.
The local government has launched the Terézváros 2030 Programme, which aims to comprehensively renovate and plant trees in public spaces and improve the quality of the urban environment, with a particular focus on residential streets and junctions in the city centre.
Over the past few years, several developments have been implemented in the district in line with the above objectives. Csengery Street has been renovated, where, in addition to the installation of new drinking water and irrigation pipes and the modernisation of the rainwater drainage system, the road and pavement surfaces have also been completely replaced. In addition, the renovation of the historic building of the Hunyadi Square Market Hall is currently underway.
Speed bumps are used to reshape junctions
We contacted the contractor company involved in the project, where Attila Farkas, construction manager of SWIETELSKY Magyarország answered our questions.
According to his information, construction work began in October 2025.
The intersection of Aradi−Rózsa and Aradi−Bajza−Lendvay streets was completed at the end of the year, while the completion of the intersection of Aradi−Székely Bertalan and Bajza−Kmety György streets is planned for early 2026.
During the project, intersections will become safer after being raised to act as speed bumps. The road and pavement sections, as well as the parking spaces on Lendvay Street, have been paved with paving stones. Each intersection will be completely closed off during construction, while pedestrian traffic will be maintained. No diversions are necessary during the works.
The complete renovation is expected to be finished by the end of March.
