Improved timetable on the railway line connecting Szeged with Békéscsaba
The track closure, which had been in effect since 21 June, ended at midnight on 15 August on the section between Hódmezővásárhely and Orosháza stations , according to Zsolt Hegyi, CEO of the MÁV group Facebook post.
According to the entry, frequent interchange systems for long-distance and regional trains are in place at several points on the Szeged - Hódmezővásárhely - Orosháza - Békéscsaba railway line. In recent years, a number of slow signals have had to be set on the line, so the regularity of the service is only around 60-70%. However, thanks to track maintenance work last year and this year, the timetable and connections are becoming more predictable again.
Significant renovation work has been carried out over the past two months, as previously reported in our reported on in our newspaper.
The reconstruction involved the maintenance and replacement of dozens of sidings, replacing more than 14 kilometres of track, including the laying and welding of 90 120-metre long rails to create a seamless track. Almost 3,800 sleepers were replaced with reinforced concrete sleepers and 3,100 tonnes of crushed stone were replaced and worked into the track. In Orosháza, platforms 15 centimetres high and 100 metres long were built between tracks 1-2 and 2-3. The MÁV works, financed from own resources, cost around 1.2 billion forints.
Although the track closure is lifted, some works are still ongoing, but they no longer disrupt train services. On this section of line, the speed limit, which has been 60 km/h for a significant length of line, is expected to be raised to 80 km/h from October, in line with the principle of gradual progression," the general manager added.
