Work is in full swing on the Biatorbágy section of the M1 motorway, where the entire road structure is currently being dismantled and rebuilt as part of the expansion project. The final road surface and traffic management systems are expected to be completed first on the side heading towards Budapest, whilst the Biatorbágy slip road is scheduled to open at the end of May.

Work on the M1 motorway expansion has reached another milestone near Biatorbágy: on the side heading towards Budapest, between kilometres 17 and 19, traffic was rerouted at the end of March so that the Biatorbágy slip road can be completed by the end of May – as reported on MKIF, Magyar Koncessziós Infrastruktúra Fejlesztő Zrt.'s latest Facebook post.
The development is also of particular importance because this section will be the first to see the completion of the final track bed and associated traffic control systems during the expansion.

Six thousand cubic metres of earth are being moved

Work has since moved into the civil engineering phase: specialists have milled away the wearing course, binder course and base course, and have also begun dismantling the sub-base structure beneath the surface. In this section alone, an estimated 6,000 cubic metres of earth will be moved, whilst in places the track will be excavated to a depth of 100–120 centimetres so that it can be completely rebuilt. The earthworks will be followed by ground stabilisation and then the construction of the sub-base.

The new section could be opened to traffic by the end of May

To mark the completion of the works, an asphalt layer 1.5 times thicker than before – now 32 centimetres thick – will be laid, and traffic management systems will also be installed. According to plans, not only the Biatorbágy slip road but also the relevant section of the main carriageway will be opened to traffic at the end of May, meaning that one of the first completed sections of the M1 motorway extension will soon be ready for use.
