The aim of the project is to strengthen transport links in the region and connect it to the international network.

The Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium has been published in the EU Public Procurement Bulletin published the results of the procedure concerning the design of the cycle path between Ács and Bábolna. The work, worth nearly 120 million forints, will be carried out by Pannonway Kft..

Infrastructure tailored to industrial estate development

The design of the new cycle path is closely linked to the development of Ács’s southern industrial area. In this area, south of the M1 motorway, a new development zone is currently being established; the need to provide logistics services for this zone has necessitated a comprehensive review of the surrounding infrastructure.

The study not only covers the renovation and modernisation of the road network, but also takes into account plans relating to the expansion of the M1 motorway. As part of the development, there has been a call for the creation of a cycle route linking the area to neighbouring towns and integrating it into the EuroVelo 6 route.

A route divided into three sections

The planned cycle path consists of three distinct sections.

The southern section of the first runs for approximately 6.5 kilometres alongside Road 8151 between Bábolna and Ács, and crosses the M1 motorway via a structure shared with the public road. The route starts in the centre of Bábolna (Wesselényi Miklós Street), then, after crossing the motorway, runs through the southern industrial area of Ács to the town centre (TSZ Road). On the section between Bábolna and the motorway, the cycle path would run on the western side of the road, whilst between the M1 and Ács it would run on the northern side.

The second section of the runs through the centre of Ács for a distance of approximately 5.5 kilometres. The route follows the course of Petőfi Sándor Street – Fő Street – Gyár Street – Road 8153 all the way to Main Road 1.

The third northern section is approximately 1.5 kilometres long and, following Lovadi Road, provides a link between Main Road 1 and the EuroVelo 6 cycle route.

The plans are being drawn up with complex technical content

The total length covered by the plans encompasses a variety of designs. The project includes a new, 6.5-kilometre-long, continuous cycle path 3 metres wide. In addition, cycle lanes and cycle paths will be established over a distance of 5.5 kilometres within residential areas – of which 4.5 kilometres will be 1.5-metre-wide lanes, whilst 1 kilometre will be a 3-metre-wide cycle path. The system will also be supplemented by a 1.5-kilometre-long mixed-use road section.

When designing the overpass above the M1 motorway, the successful tenderer must comply with the relevant MKIF Magyar Koncessziós Infrastruktúra Fejlesztő Zrt. plans, which they are also responsible for procuring. When preparing the construction drawings, the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) (BIM) is also required.
