Traffic flow could improve at one of Debrecen’s busiest junctions
The main task of the local resident TERV-TÁR Bt. is to design two straight lanes leading from Bartók Béla út towards Mester utca. The junction of Bartók Béla út – Böszörményi út – Mester utca – Pesti utca in Debrecen is one of the city’s busiest intersections, with almost constant heavy traffic, so improving its capacity is a key element of transport in the county town.
There is less than six months left for planning
The successful bidder in the public procurement tender, TERV-TÁR, is to design the two access lanes in question, together with the associated rainwater drainage and relevant utility works, within 164 days for a sum of 6,950,000 forints.
Under the current layout of the Bartók Béla út – Böszörményi út – Mester utca – Pesti utca junction, a single entry lane on Mester utca is available for traffic approaching from the direction of Bartók Béla út and Böszörményi út. In addition, at the Mester utca – Pesti utca junction, alongside the existing central reservation, a right-turn lane without traffic lights joins this receiving lane, providing a 2×2-lane traffic configuration towards the city centre.
The designer’s task is to design two straight approach lanes from Bartók Béla út towards Mester utca, preferably by reducing the size of the central reservation at the junction with Pesti utca, including the necessary redesign of the existing traffic light system.
Several versions will be produced
When determining the size of the central island, the cycle crossing leading towards Mester Street must also be taken into account, as there must be no break in the cycle path. The designer is also required to prepare decision-making documentation, supported by technical and cost analyses, presenting at least two options for technical solutions requiring a decision by the local authority.
The section of Bartók Béla út and Mester utca covered by the design is 175 metres long. In order to carry out the development, the successful tenderer must prepare all the necessary specialist plans.
